Collected Stories
by Ron Sanders

Every nerve in Mason’s body was a live wire. There wasn’t a damned thing left to try, but he couldn’t let go. Even though he knew the jetliner was out of control, even though the ground was rushing at him with all the visual impact of a tsunami, even though he knew he was about to die a death beyond imagination. ‘Everybody out of the aisles! Seatbelts fastened! Heads down between your knees!’ He switched off the cabin speakers.

Elis Royd
by Ron Sanders

Earth, paradoxically the galaxy’s ultimate conqueror and democratic savior, is besieged with applications for naturalization from extraterrestrial refugees. An enormous asteroid is set up as a stepping stone: a faux Earth endlessly provisioned with terrestrial delicacies and perpetually powered by a subterranean atomic plant. Too expensive to maintain, the project is abandoned, and the human administrators and extraterrestrials left to rot on a world suddenly overrun by imported pestilences and cross-evolving monstrosities. So buckle up dat ol’ intellectual seatbelt: it’s all downhill from here.
